The ridge path meanders sometimes as a narrow path, sometimes as a wide path through the Muschelkalkberge. At the inn on the Gr. Hörselberg is usually a bit busy. But even a few meters away, it is mostly a quiet hiking trail.

From the ridge trail, you can enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Thuringian Forest with the Großer Inselsberg (916 m), the Wartberge Mountains, towards Mosbach, Wutha-Farnroda, and Eisenach with the Wartburg Castle and the Burschenschaft Monument, all the way to the Kleiner Hörselberg. The old, renaturalized route of the A4 motorway is clearly visible from up here, and to the east, you can see the new motorway route before it continues north around the Hörselberg Mountains near Sättelstädt. In the foreground are the railway line and the towns of Sättelstädt and Kälberfeld.
