Built from 1961 to 1964 based on designs by Josef Strauss, Cafe Moskau formed the center of the first socialist residential complex on today's Karl-Marx-Allee, formerly Stalinallee. The prestigious building symbolized the brotherhood between the GDR and the Soviet Union.
From now on, guests of Cafe Moscow could enjoy Russian dishes, drink a mocha at the bar, have fun in the dance cafe or end the evening in the night bar in the basement. Small souvenirs from the Soviet Union could be bought in the arts and crafts sales point "Natascha". The comfortable interior gave the visitors a feeling of exclusivity and uniqueness. Cafe Moscow was also a popular meeting place for black market activities and espionage work.
The Sputnik, which was reconstructed in its original size, still adorns the entrance today and was intended to illustrate the progressiveness of the Soviet Union. It was a gift from the Ambassador of the USSR.
Unfortunately only one event location today.

The mosaic at the entrance to Café Moscow is called “From the Life of the Peoples of the Soviet Union”. It was created in 1964 by Bert Heller.
