In its function as a cultural building, the cinema building was part of the plan of the avenue from the beginning, but not in the form of the structure and the facade design, which differ significantly from the surrounding buildings on Karl-Marx-Allee - these are in the late Stalinist confectioner style while the design of the Kosmos with its smooth facades and the combination of straight and curved surfaces using prestressed concrete can be compared with the congress hall that was built in West Berlin at the same time.
