The landscape of the Italian Val Ferret is characterized by the contrast of the two sides of the valley: to the west the rugged and steeply rising slopes of the Grandes Jorasses (4045 m) with their hanging glaciers, 2000 m high above the valley; in the east green mountain slopes with forest and pastures, flatter and farther. The valley floor itself looks like a wildnishaft-landscaped park of forests, swamps, high-altitude meadows between widely scattered boulders and boulders, in between rushes a glacier-melted mountain stream - great scenery.
