    Old barracks" or "Mohrenscheuer" (1686)
This extremely representative building in the "second row" is a sign of bourgeois prosperity. The date of construction, 1686, is written in Roman numerals above the eastern arched door. The builder was mayor and landlord Christoph Gaysser. The building was largely used as a barn. From 1806 - 1813 a cavalry squadron of King Friedrich I was quartered. From here, Württemberg soldiers went to Napoleon's Russian campaign in 1813/14. Hence the name "old barracks".
From 1848 the barn belonged to the Mohrenwirt Andreas Braun. This circumstance explains the name "Mohrenscheuer".
The decorative half-timbered building (Franconian - Alemannic mixed half-timbered) in Rösslegasse 2 is the most magnificent building of its kind in Riedlingen.
In addition, there is the special feature of the folding shutters in the south-east corner, which indicate use as a "shop", i.e. a shop.
Also noteworthy are the carvings on the same corner of the house: two masks and a twisted column. The larger mask is clearly the type of medieval court jester with donkey ears and bells on his head. The building belongs to the district of Biberach.

Built in 1686 as an arable bourgeois house with excellent Franconian-Alemannic ornamental framework. Outwardly unchanged since then. Carvings on the corner stand with a fool's mask. In 1806, after the transition to Württemberg, it was temporarily used as a cavalry barracks.
