The Todtenbruch is the northeasternmost branch of the High Fens. These were old forest areas which - together with the surrounding areas - were planted with coniferous wood around 1830. Drainage ditches were dug to create suitable living conditions for the spruce. After the Second World War, parts of the area were cleared and converted into agricultural land. Soil nature trail Todtenbruch Hürtgenwald
