In the 18th century there was a place of execution where the two stone pillars stand today. As the name suggests, there was a gallows here, with the wooden beam on which the rope hung being supported by the two stone pillars. The notches where the wooden beam was embedded can still be seen today.
In addition to its regional historical significance, the Hopfmannsfelder Galgen is also a popular place to linger and you can simply let your gaze wander over the Vogelsberg volcanic landscape.
