Best Hikes to St. Georg Chapel Brempt

Tips

  • The single-nave brick building was built in the late Gothic style around 1500. Inside, a valuable baroque altar (around 1700) and hand-carved pews from this period can be admired. The crucifix from the 11th century, which you can also admire there, and a Madonna from the 16th century are particularly valuable

  • The St. Georg Chapel is picturesquely located near Lake Harik, in the middle of the small village of Brempt.
The chapel of St. Georg Brempt was built around 1500 by the Lords of Brempt. The stepped gable on the Lower Rhine and the roof have just been painstakingly restored with the help of donations and the support of the Aachen diocese.
There are valuable art treasures in our chapel. The most important and valuable sculpture is the Romanesque crucifix with a body from the early 11th century, probably from 1060. The cross is very similar to the Gero Cross in Cologne Cathedral. Other valuable figures from the 15th, 17th and 18th centuries, such as the figure of St. Bartholomew, the Madonna with the pear, St. George with the dragon or Joseph with the child (and much more), not only move art-interested visitors in amazement.
The Friends of St. Georg Brempt would like to The chapel from the 19th century, which is part of the most valuable cultural heritage of Niederkrüchten, has been preserved as a landmark of Brempt.
Brempt is known as an excursion destination with the adjacent Hariksee. Many visitors from near and far visit the place. In order to be able to show our treasure to as many people in the region as possible, we open the chapel every Sunday from May to October from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Experienced volunteers give interested visitors an insight into the history of the chapel. Pilgrimage groups and those interested in art can also receive guided tours outside of opening hours on request. Regular services / word services, such as the Thanksgiving service or the "Church services in the countryside", regularly attract many visitors. Concerts, readings and seasonal celebrations, in and around the chapel, focus on getting to know, meeting and exchanging people in the region.
Registrations outside of the opening times at the Friends of St. Georg Chapel Brempt eV.
