The nature reserve is located northeast of Munster on the edge of the Lüneburg Heath Nature Park. It protects a section of the Lopau as a near-natural Geestbach with alternating sandy and gravel areas and part of the Wulfsoder Graben flowing towards it. The flowing waters have well-developed, flooding aquatic vegetation in places.
The surrounding areas, characterized by swamps and fens, are each included in the nature reserve.
