The town of Warburg goes back to a castle dominating Diemelfurt at this point. The city wall had a total length of about 3km (4.2km with double walls) and enclosed the lower town and the upper town. The city wall consisted partly of a double wall and had 24 defense towers and 10 city gates. 4-5 watch towers secured the Landwehr. Large parts of the ring wall are still preserved today, some of them in full height, 5 defense towers, 2 city gates, as well as the remains of other towers and gates. The so-called Heinturm near Ossendorf is the only watchtower that has been preserved. In the south-west there was also a castle on the castle hill, of which only the St. Erasmus chapel remains today. This is a new building that stands on the site of the old castle chapel.
