The masonry dates back to the "Church of the Holy Sepulcher", which Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg had built in 1543-45 at the city gates for the Beguines, a religiously and socially oriented community of single women. It was a single-nave hall church with a round end. The remains of three buttresses are still preserved on the outside.
