"On the way through the meadow between Plombières and the three-country point, it can be seen again and again from a distance, over Moresnet it divides the sky: the Göhl valley viaduct, one of the longest steel railway bridges in Europe. The viaduct, 1,120 meters long and up to 58 meters high, was built by the German occupying forces during the First World War as part of the line from Aachen to Tongeren. The line was intended to enable the transport of military troops and materials towards the Flemish front Employed around the clock for months.
