"The small river has its source at Hebscheider Heide near the German-Belgian border and after 20 kilometers it crosses the border to the Netherlands, only to flow into the Meuse after almost 40 kilometers more. The water of the Göhl was very important for the Economy of the surrounding villages.For example, in Raeren and Eynatten, the potters benefited from its water and in Kelmis and Plombières it was used for washing when mining the galmeier ore.The name "Göhl" comes from the Germanic word "Galia", which means so much like a narrow winding river."
