The Kahlenbergwehr is the preliminary stage for the hydroelectric power plant on the Ruhr island. Conveniently, a walking and cycling path leads across the weir and from the top you have a magnificent view of the Ruhr and the green nature of the Ruhrauen.

The Kahlenberg weir is part of the built between 1922-1925 hydroelectric power plant Kahlenberg. In the immediate vicinity was at this historic site in 1414, the former Kahlenberg mill, a stately fruit mill, which was destroyed by the flood.
The Kahlenberg weir is preserved except for occasional restoration work in its original form, 1962 was subsequently built the pedestrian bridge, which allows the crossing today.
This was necessary because the popular, short walk to the Saarner floodplains was blocked by the former pedestrian bridge, the so-called "Saarner bowling alley", which was destroyed in the Second World War.
