The Kemnader reservoir is a beautiful recreational area between Bochum, Witten and Hattingen an der Ruhr and also part of the Ruhrtalradwegs.
There are up to three separate paths for walkers, inline skiers and cyclists around, but not everyone can find their way.
For Rennrahrradfahrer conditionally recommended as a round (about 10 km over the Lake Bridge), since the asphalt has become partly very hilly by roots and some passages are laid with cobblestones.

From the weir, you have a beautiful view of Lake Kemnader. Kemnader Lake is a great place to cycle. But even though there are dedicated lanes for pedestrians, cyclists, and inline skaters, you should ride carefully, especially in good weather, as it can get crowded.

Part 1
So, what follows is a second attempt at a review (unfortunately in several parts, as Komoot has a 2500 character limit), from a racing cyclist's point of view after over 2000 kemnader kilometers.
The Kemnade reservoir and the cycle path are also a very special experience for us. I have never seen a more ambivalent place in my life; between the friendliest conversations with like-minded people, an accident, and attempted intentional bodily harm, everything has been there for me.
But for me personally, that's exactly what makes this place so attractive in over 2000 kilometers. In this review I would like to analyze and showcase the Kemnader circular route and its accident hotspots, especially for racing cyclists.
We start our mental tour in the Hevenerteil (on the Bochum side) shortly after the Heveney at the ice cream parlor carts. (Anti-Clockwise) (Reverse clockwise). (South-West direction)
Our journey begins on a combined inline/cycle path. After about 500 meters we come to our first “slight” accident hot spot. The junction towards the cycle path and the inline skate path. Inline skaters are now forced to cut into oncoming traffic and use the junction of their inline path, and even if it often doesn't look like inline skaters are using this, the prejudice is deceptive, as in 90% of cases they change their mind and do so without looking over their shoulders Continue skating on the inline path. If you know this place, it's actually not a problem. If you absolutely have to overtake, you should exceptionally try to overtake from the right side if there is sufficient distance.
The first “mini” climb follows a curve on what is now the smallest section of the Kemnade cycle path (>150 m). Now we come to the first real accident hot spot on the Bochum side. In the now invisible curve you have to take everything into account. Families, with strollers blocking the whole way, up to “ghost cyclists” who drive on the wrong side (left side) and one of them knocked me down through no fault of my own, but so far the only accident on the Kemnade, toy, toy, toy. I recommend driving this curve in the middle, flush to the left and being ready to brake on the lower link so that you can react quickly enough.
