The 26 meter high church tower is a symbol of the town and a real landmark. It catches your eye even before you reach the place. Lots of information about the church and Groß Kölzig at: gross-koelzig.de

The village church was built in the 14th century as a hall church made of field stone in the late Gothic style. The bells were located in a bell tower next to the church until around 1690, after which the Groß Kölziger church was initially given a half-timbered tower. This was demolished in 1879 and then rebuilt, partly using building materials from the old tower. The upper part of the tower was rebuilt from bricks and provided with large sound arcades. The tower is completed by a pyramid helmet with a tower ball and weather vane. Just below the tower roof there is a clock on all sides, which is flanked by panels arranged in pairs, and small corner towers at the corners.
