The Leemer Hoef, written around 1835 as De Leemerhoef, was built by Jhr. Mr. Michael Alexander Joseph Van Der Beken Pasteel, Lord of Aalst. He had the farm built on a site where clay pits had previously been dug from which bricks were baked along the national road to Aalst. Hence the name De Leemerhoef. Jhr Mr. VanDerBeken, Lord of Aalst was born in Leuven on March 10, 1789 and received his noble title in 1822 when his father was ennobled by royal decree. He died on September 2, 1864 in Stratum.
