The Flying Oak in the Herbolzheim Forest is a memorial site that commemorates the crash of a military aircraft in 1943. On September 23, 1943, the lieutenant and pilot Hermann Dingerling crashed his Messerschmitt night fighter plane and was killed. The memorial site was built in 1987 and commemorates this tragic event.
