This observation tower was built by the Schweinfurt section of the Rhön Club in 1892. The Schindturm was originally much higher. The upper floor of the tower was made of wood and covered. There was an open observation platform on the roof, but this was demolished due to dilapidation.
Since June 2017, the Schindturm has been shining in new splendor. The Rotary Club Schweinfurt-Peterstirn renovated the tower in cooperation with the city of Schweinfurt and fitted it with a new roof. From here, the view sweeps over the Höllental with the Schweinfurt districts of Deutschhof and Hochleite.

The tower, which was restored a little lower in 2017, is not at all on the steep bank of the Mainleite. Nevertheless, there are very good views of the surrounding area from here due to the visual axes. The tower is an interesting intermediate station on the way between Schweinfurt and the Almrösl excursion restaurant.
