The run-of-river power plant was built as a result of the barrage expansion of the Main from Schweinfurt to Bamberg. This section was opened to traffic in 1962 as a large shipping route (federal waterway). The power plant went into operation a year later and has two Kaplan turbines with a total output of 3.8 MW.
