The Hohenhorst Stadium is a combined football and athletics stadium in the Westphalian district town of Recklinghausen. It opened in 1977 and has eight synthetic running tracks.The stadium originally had a capacity of 30,000 spectators. Today the covered grandstand offers space for 3,400 spectators. Another 5,000 spectators also fit on the concrete steps.Soccer, American football and athletics take place in the Hohenhorst stadium. FC 96 Recklinghausen and the Recklinghausen Chargers play on the lawn. Even a soccer world championship has already taken place there. A game of the “Football World Cup for People with Disabilities” was played there in 2006.
