Mountain Biking Highlight
The Hegeküppel belongs to the FFH area backdrop of the Zechstein area between Sontra and Morschen. The stony and nutrient-poor summit reaches a height of 399m above sea level at its highest point and is in the district of Solz.
Rare butterflies, including, among others, the thick-headed butterfly, bluebirds (e.g., Wundkleeblauuling) and the conspicuous swallowtail, make use of the abundance of flowers. Characteristic vertebrates of the Hegeküppels are: sand lizard, smooth snake, black warbler and red backed killer.
NABU is responsible for looking after this area.
It is advisable to stay on (not through) paths of the designated FFH area by bike.
