Monument on the Dingvonderpad. In the Middle Ages, the administration of justice took place in the open air, in a specially designated place. This was the Dingvonder on the border of the Uithuizen and Uithuizermeeden games. Things has two meanings. On the one hand it can mean newly reclaimed land, on the other hand it has the meaning of court or place of justice. Both meanings apply here. The practice of changing the right on Ascension Day remained common until the 18th century.
