Noordpolderzijl was created in 1811 after the embankment of the Noordpolder. Due to the ditching, the open sea connection with the villages of Usquert and Warffum disappeared. The land in front of the dike gives a good impression of what the Groninger Land looked like before the dikes made sure that the water could no longer flow unhindered into the land. The dike foreland offers the last natural grasslands of the Netherlands. From the dike, you have a wonderful view of the dyke foreland.
