About 3.5 kilometers southwest of the town center of Waltrop, behind the Dortmund-Ems Canal, the St. Laurentius Chapel stands in the middle of the fields of the Waltrop farming community of Leveringhausen. st-peter-waltrop.de/kirche/st-laurentius-kapelle.html

The outdoor area has been completely redesigned and offers benches for a relaxing break.

Just a few meters away in the direction of the canal is another small sight. An abandoned courtyard with the foundations of a former mill is also an interesting sight.

The Sankt-Laurentius-Kapelle is a chapel on Schultenstrasse in Waltrop.

The chapel originally dates from the early Middle Ages, around 1070 when the area between Emscher and Lippe was settled and the Leveringhausen estate was created. The chapel was first mentioned in a document in 1343. The early rectangular church interior was later supplemented by an equally rectangular choir. The current tower on the west side was only added in 1886 as a replacement for its dilapidated predecessor.
