The former brickworks from 1850 has been transformed into a well-preserved industrial heritage site offering various recreational opportunities.
De Panoven, like many brickworks, was a family business. Bricks, roof tiles, and tiles were produced there for around 130 years, the last 100 years under the management of the Kruitwagen family. De Panoven brickworks featured a round, zigzag kiln that could fire continuously.
The industry grew as more bricks were used to build homes.
But after 1950, things became very difficult for the brickmaking trade. Production became mechanized, and the number of factories needed decreased. De Panoven also suffered.
