The area is located north of downtown Mülheim. It covers the lower section of the Ruhr and its floodplain areas until shortly before the confluence with the Rhine. The area is largely occupied by extensively used grassland, in the northern area there is moderately intensively used pasture land. In between, some woody structures are interspersed. The Ruhr is partially accompanied by willow bushes. It is narrowed by a weir shortly before the A40 motorway bridge. In the southern area of the area there are several enrichment basins in the area of the floodplain. Some of them are surrounded by willow bushes, a pond in the far south has a dense reed belt. Two more ponds are designated as GB. The entire biotope complex consisting of Ruhr meadows, river course and wetlands is determining value. They represent a valuable retreat for many animal and plant species in the floodplain meadows. The combination of woodland, meadows, wetlands and bodies of water is highly representative and therefore worth protecting in terms of the protection concept for the natural environment. Impairments can be recognized, among other things, by strong neophyte spread and eutrophication. The area is a valuable part of the alluvial meadows in the lower Ruhr Valley and is of outstanding importance for the biotope network.

Definitely always worth a trip. It is beautiful here in every season. Whether you are traveling by bike or specifically as a "resident down anne Ruhr", there is a nice spot for everyone. Be it just for relaxing, walking or a beer after work. But please don't leave anything behind !!
