The Belgian National Society of Neighborhood Railways was organized into regional groups that had a great deal of independence and their own policy. Originally, all lines in the province of East Flanders were operated by tenant farmers who had their own lines, depot and organization. The NMVB did not change the tenant organization when it took over the concessions. As a result, the NMVB has 4 groups in the province:

Ghent (Dendermondse Steenweg/Dampoort) The lines in the East + Linkeroever Hamme);

Ghent (Rabot) De Lijnen in the west of Ghent;

Oordegem (Ghent Merelbeke, Geraardsbergen, Zottegem, Oordegem and Aalst);

Aalter (lines Tielt Eeklo Watervliet + Deinze Oudenaarde Geraardsbergen);

The line 'M' to Merelbeke and 'S' to Zomergem (formerly Somergem) remained in the hands of the tenant TEG (SA des Tramways electriques de Gand), the company that also operated the Ghent city tram, until after the Second World War.

Large parts of the route between Sint-Lievens-Houtem and Sint-Lievens-Esse have been converted into a cycle path with its own route.
