Sint-Lievens-Houtem still has many devotional chapels scattered throughout the municipality, but one chapel is very special.
In the middle of the fields at the end of the Wittinck is the 'mother Anna chapel' dedicated to Saint Anna, the mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This Halleweg was also the field track that the convicts had to take on their way to the gallows, which was set up at the highest point
van de Balei, on the border with Borsbeke. It is believed that they stopped here once more to pray before undergoing the sentence.
The current chapel was erected in 1950 to replace the historic monument that was dilapidated.

Around 1400 the gallows at the foot of the 'Preeters Berg' were located in this area. Before the executioner did his job, the convicts were given the opportunity to pray at this Sint-Anna chapel before being hanged.
