Source version from 1878. The version of the 2 mill springs is the oldest part of the system for using the Ammerbach spring area for Jena. It was the starting point for Jena's first high-pressure water pipe. The height of the springs is 225 m above sea level. was enough to direct the water to the elevated reservoir on Galgenberg, today's Friedensberg (200m above sea level), and thus also supply the higher parts of Jena.

The historic water extraction system is a listed building. It was used until 1973 and then decommissioned due to increasing nitrate pollution in the spring water.
