Hiking

The source of the Staffelbach is in the middle of the old town center. Until the mid-1990s, the Staffelbach flowed through the Oberaffelbach fire-fighting water pond, which was called the "cat pool" because small cats were said to have been drowned here in the past. The pond was filled in after it was connected to an efficient water supply. The Staffelbach now flows past Mühlenthal and through the fairytale valley, in which Engelbert Humperdinck is said to have come up with the idea for his opera "Hänsel and Gretel", after which it flows into the Homburger Bröl near Herfterath.
