The Strépy-Thieu funicular lift, on the Canal du Center, is the second largest boat lift in the world. Begun in 1982 and inaugurated in 2002, it allows, thanks to its two independent ferries, the crossing of a vertical drop of 73.15 meters between the Scheldt basin and a division reach (at an altitude of 121.10 meters).
