The vault, visible from the stairs in Berggasse, is part of the ford between town and castle, which was passable up to the 19th century. Since the 16th century at the latest, the dirt road known as "Furtaller Berg" led through the vault and emerged again in the middle of the street after a right turn at the castle. With the construction of Neustraße in 1852, the driveway lost its importance. The vault was walled up, the exit on the castle side was filled and the road, which was formerly accessible by carts, became a footpath.
