The Mandelholz dam is located between the towns of Elend and Königshütte in the Upper Harz Mountains. Brocken and Wurmberg are in sight. The dam is a flood protection basin. This is also what makes it so appealing, because it only dams the Kalte Bode when the water is high and is usually only partially filled. This creates a lush grassy landscape in the western part of the basin. Here is also a nice starting point for a tour, the "Green Tanne" - restaurant café and hotel. A traditional house in the best Harz style.
