Picnic area

In a nice corner under an old pollard willow next to a twig there is a picnic table with benches made from old tree trunks and the children can romp in a "Wiglo", a round construction made of living willow branches.
Natuurpunt was contacted by the family of Becky Heyse, an avid hiker and nature lover who often passed through Honegem with her family. She passed away from cancer in early 2019, leaving behind a husband and three daughters. The family was looking for a location for a memorial to Becky and after a few visits to Honegem they decided to set up a picnic area at "Den Doorn". Rotary Wetteren also contributed to its financing. The volunteers of Natuurpunt Honegem took care of the implementation.
