The new building became necessary in the 1930s because the number of Catholics in Blankenfelde increased. Ecclesiastically they belonged to the Salvator parish in Lichtenrade. Since it was a long way there, the construction of a new church began in Blankenfelde in 1936 on Zossener Damm 39 at the corner of Jühnsdorfer Weg.
