At the very tip of Gelderland, where the Maas and the Waal just don't touch, lies the beautiful Munnikenland. A fantastic Natura2000 area where not only nature can be experienced, but also cultural history is amply discussed. With Slot Loevestein as the epic center of it all.

The area is part of the Bommelerwaard, with wet riparian forests where the trees stand with their feet in the water, grasslands with abundantly blooming flowers and floodplains full of meadow and water birds. A dynamic and robust nature reserve with an important part of Dutch cultural history. The defenses of the New Dutch Waterline show how we used to use the water to keep the enemy away.
