Narrow streets and narrow, high houses characterize the medieval old town, which is by the way the largest in all of Thurgau. Anyone who walks along the banks of the Rhine or the city wall will always discover original details from the Kyburg era. Diessenhofen has had town charter since 1178. Anyone who only suspects a medieval atmosphere will be surprised by a fascinating field of tension between the Middle Ages and the modern.

The predecessor of the sealing tower protected the eastern entrance to the city. In 1545 the current sealing tower was built by Martin Henseler from Stein a. Rh. Built. The tower was used to store documents and the city seal as early as the 16th century. In 1851 Diessenhofen prevented the demolition of the sealing tower by the cantonal road and building department. In order to increase the passage and to give the building a "more pleasing appearance", the archway was raised by one meter in 1863. In 1943/1944 and 1991, the tower was renovated, the moon ball reconstructed and linked to the pointer operation.
