This old burial place went wild after the last burial took place here in 1950. Committed citizens then tried in the 1960s to convert the cemetery into a park in the city center, which was never used as such. So he degenerated the second time.
A good 30 years later, efforts were made to rededicate the old cemetery as a burial site. The newly founded association solicited sponsorships to ensure the financing of the project, which is unique in Germany. "In the meantime there is not a conference on cemetery culture in which the old cemetery of Bad Arolsen is not mentioned as a special example of the restoration of an old burial place", says Edith Hüttig, chairwoman of the Association of Friends of the Old Cemetery, not without pride.
