This lime tree, which is already more than 5 centuries old and therefore heavily damaged, stands on the border of the fields of Hoogkouter, Laagkouter and Neerwaarden, near the Bussegem district. It has been protected as a landscape since 1957. Of course, this mysterious silhouette is interwoven with numerous legends and ghost stories.

The ghost lime is a so-called veteran tree. An old tree that has been weathered by wind and weather, shows cavities and deformities. Because the tree stands alone in an open field, there may have been lightning strikes. The lime tree is associated with the figure of Jan de Lichte, who would have been hiding here in the tree in the 18th century. A frightening figure named Kledden is also said to have hidden in the tree with the intention of ambushing passers-by.
