Even people from the Hague rarely or never come here. There is a kind of mini-dune in the middle of the city, above a traffic tunnel, not easily accessible. I'm making it a highlight because I don't think anyone will bother to get here. :)

A piece of dune landscape in the middle of the city. You wouldn't say it, but you are walking almost above the Hubertus tunnel here.

For centuries this area was outside The Hague and formed a whole with the Oostduinen and Meijendel. The original name of the part now known as the Hubertuspark is 'Petit Sint Hubert'. It was a young dune landscape where people hunted. According to one theory, the area is named after Huybert Wouters. On a map of 1629, made by Henricus Hondius, the “Huybert Wouters laentje” is indicated on the road that leads from the Denneweg to the area. This is also the case on a map by Willem Blaeu from 1631. Possibly in later times, when the origin of the name was no longer clear, or simply to make the name sound more upscale, for that reason the area was named after Saint Hubert, the patron saint of hunters. A map from 1660 shows a farm with the name "In Sint Huijbert". In the nineteenth century the gamekeeper lived in "Villa Zwitserland" on the Kwekerijweg.
