Christian Fürchtegott Gellert (born July 4, 1715 in Hainichen, † December 13, 1769 in Leipzig) was a German poet and moral philosopher of the Enlightenment and was one of the most widely read German writers during his lifetime, along with Christian Felix Weisse.
