The St. Nicholas Church Geithain was probably built from the year 1165, initially as a Romanesque basilica.
From 1504 it was rebuilt or replaced as a three-nave late Gothic hall church. In 1594, instead of using the hall rib vault typical of hall churches, they decided to move into a colorfully painted field ceiling, which is still preserved today.
