The Rochlitz mountain forest is a deciduous and mixed forest with birch, hornbeam, red and hornbeam, oak, larch, pine and spruce. A large number of false cypresses (trees of life) and Douglas firs were planted here around 1900 by the Royal Saxon Forest Academy Tharandt as a forest experiment. A beech grove of around 200-year-old trees between Bergstrasse and Sörnziger Strasse has been declared a memorial monument. It is still used to obtain beech seeds and seedlings.
