Hallig Hooge (hooge.de), the second largest German Hallig, which is surrounded by the North Sea and sometimes even washed out, invites you to unprecedented impressions of space, time and nature.

We took the WDR ferry from Schlüttsiel at 10:00 am and left at 15:45. The travel time is about 1 hour 15 minutes and the stay of about 4 1/2 hours we found perfect. We had enough time to enjoy the Hanswarft with the storm tide cinema, the Erlebniszentrum Mensch & Watt, the Halligmuseum, the Königspesel and the small EDEKA market. But there was still enough time to walk to other terps, where then also less public traffic was.

Not only in nice and sunny weather is a visit from our point of view highly recommended.

Hallig are small marshland islands in the North Frisian Wadden Sea. They are only a few meters above sea level. The low-lying areas have land under during storm surges. Only the artificially raised hills, the terps with the houses on them, usually remain above the water. Hallig Hooge 578 ha in size, the second largest Hallig, stone dike against flooding, including the uninhabited Hallig Norderoog. There are 10 terps: Backenswarft, Hanswarft, Ipkenswarft, Kirchwarft, Lorenzwarft, Mitteltritt, Oeckelützwarft, Ocksenwarft, Volkertswarft and Westerwarft.

A visit to the Hallig Hooge is highly recommended. Lots of birds, cows and sheep and always beautiful views of the mounds. A walk gives you a good impression of the Hallig. Unique.
