The three-storey tower villa was built in 1906 by the architect Otto Sior for the head of the Islamic collection of the Bode Museum in Berlin (at that time Kaiser-Friedrich-Museum), for Professor Friedrich Sarre. The villa is decorated with some oriental sculptures. A 12 meter long ceramic frieze with lion motifs shines in the arcade of the small tower. This is a replica of the frieze that adorned the Ishtar gate of the processional street of Babylon at the time of Nebuchadnezzar II (604–552 B.C.E.). The lions should turn away evil and protect man. A frieze containing parts of the original can be seen today in the Pergamon Museum in Berlin. Using fragments of the old glazed bricks, parts of the processional street and the Ishtar gate were rebuilt. Friedrich Sarre was involved in this work and had a copy made for his house.

The Sarre family were frequent guests, such as Foreign Minister Walter Rathenau, Chancellor Franz von Papen, and the first attaché of the Turkish embassy Enver Pascha.

After the professor's death on May 31, 1945, the wife had to move out. The villa was then initially used as a Soviet headquarters and from 1957 it was part of the buildings of the University of Film and Television.

The depiction of the lions on the gallery is particularly interesting. They are modelled on the lion in the Bode Museum. The builder, Sarre, was the director of the Bode Museum.
