Landmark of Zernsdorf and under monument protection since March 27, 2000The water tower is a witness to Zernsdorf's industrial history, because its construction is directly related to the operation of the Zernsdorf sleeper factory.Zernsdorf was in 1898 when the wood impregnation company "Hülsberg & CO." was founded, a small village. At that time, the new industrial plant was far from the "gates of the village" between the northern shore of the Krüpelsee and the Königs Wusterhausen-Zernsdorf district road built in 1888.In the Zernsdorf "sleeper impregnation plant", which first belonged to the Royal, then to the Reichsbahn and finally to the Bundesbahn and in 1993 became part of a GmbH, wooden sleepers for railway construction were impregnated until October 27, 1995. At the end of 1995, after almost 100 years of production, the plant was shut down forever. The construction time for the water tower can be assumed to be 1907/08, because the construction drawing was made in January 1907. It was initially built as a water reservoir to protect against the great risk of fire, because the sleepers were stored in the lumber yard in the immediate vicinity of the watering station. In 1947/48 the houses belonging to the factory (built in 1910) were connected to the water supply. In 1995, with the closure of the sleeper factory, the water tower also went out of service.Source zernsdorf.de/cms2/content/denkmal-wasserturm
