It was destroyed in 1246/47 and passed from the Pappenheim family to the Wittelsbach family, who rebuilt it. From 1417 to 1422, during the War of the Bavarian Dukes, the castle was destroyed again and has remained in ruins ever since. In 1841, the last remnants of the ring wall collapsed. In 1996, the castle ruins were renovated by the Rennertshofen municipality to preserve their original structure.
