Great place with great views. Accessible about 200m behind the rest area at the chapel.Origination:
At the time of the "White Jura" (= Malm) the southern German area was covered by a shallow subtropical shelf sea. In this shallow sea, shallow platforms alternated with coarse-grained lime deposits and deep pits with fine-grained limescale deposits. The approximately 45-meter high Burgstein consists essentially of the massive platform lime deposits with some interspersed sponge reefs that grew on the slopes of the platforms. While the lime layers of the tubs were strongly compacted over time by overlapping rock layers, the reef and platform lime resisted the mountain pressure and remained as tablets and more powerful blocks. The erosion preferentially prepared these harder batches. In particular, on the impact slopes of the rivers - in this case, the glacial Urdonau - this led to rock exemptions.Source:

Unfortunately, we did not find Burgstein. Shortly after the Heilig-Geist-Kapelle the path would have left unmarked and left into the meadow. The detour over the north has brought us only one free round.
