The mill was built in 1839 by the Houtman family. Until about 1987, a descendant of this family was active on this mill. Since then, volunteer millers are active. The mill is unique in design and is used as a peeling mill. Today it belongs to the foundation Het Groninger Landschap.

Hiking
Ceres is an octagonal tower mill. The blades reach a height of almost 30 meters. The name of the mill comes from Roman mythology. Ceres was the goddess of agriculture and grain.
