The mill was built in 1839 by the Houtman family. Until about 1987, a descendant of this family was active on this mill. Since then, volunteer millers are active. The mill is unique in design and is used as a peeling mill. Today it belongs to the foundation Het Groninger Landschap.

Hiking

Ceres is an octagonal tower mill. The blades reach a height of almost 30 meters. The name of the mill comes from Roman mythology. Ceres was the goddess of agriculture and grain.

The Ceres Sponge Mill, built in 1839, is still an eye-catcher today. The mill can be visited on Saturdays between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m.
